The impact of US sanctions on India's energy imports has been revealed, showing a significant drop in Russian crude supplies last December.
Banned Companies Sees Huge Fall in Oil Imports
Two American companies were slapped with sanctions recently and have seen their dealings come to an abrupt end. As per the data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, imports of Russian oil fell by nearly 27% compared to November last year.
Compared to the $3.7 billion worth of oil imported in November 2025, December supplies were significantly lower, standing at around $2.6 billion.
Sanctions Hit Energy Sector Hard
The data also shows that imports of Russian oil in December are over 15% lower than the $3.2 billion imported during the same period in 2024.
This significant drop is a direct result of the US sanctions on these two companies, set to be wound down by November last year.
